Gifts for the nurses!

Thank you to to all who helped us make these gifts possible! Today we delivered some goodies to the NICU nurses. Thank you also to Vera Bradley for the small purses which we filled with an assortment of fun items, and Chik-fil-A, for helping us deliver some great treats. Most of all, thanks to our friends and family, whose constant generosity and love we cherish. (We placed notes handwritten by friends and family into the small purses so that each nurse can see just how much he or she is appreciated!)

He has made everything BEAUTIFUL in its time!

He has made everything BEAUTIFUL in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastical 3:11

What a beautiful day to celebrate Jacob’s life in and now with Jesus!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Thank you to everyone who is thinking and praying for our family today. Your love, friendship and support is so encouraging and uplifting our family! You are a beautiful blessing from God!

With all our love to each of you reading this!

What a Memory!

This is a simple and quick note to acknowledge the second anniversary of the passing of our little man, Jacob. As I reflect on his 44 days with us and particularly that last grueling evening following his surgery, I approach a crossroads.

On the one hand, I can choose to wallow in the grief that is sometimes overwhelming, pondering the loss and all that could have been.

On the other hand, I can choose to relish what *is* – what has become of us having gone through this experience. In this way I can ponder Jacob’s life with Christ, free from all ailments, and I can consider the ways in which our Lord has worked in our lives and in the lives of others through us.

I choose Life. Every. Time.

Love & Loss (Happy 2nd Birthday, Jacob)

As we ponder what would have been the second birthday of our son, Jacob, I reflect on the “value” of having experienced such love and then such a loss. Continue reading “Love & Loss (Happy 2nd Birthday, Jacob)”

Easter promise

This is a short note. I share with you that “Easter” means that my family will be reunited with Jacob. Do you know what joy that brings to us?! That firm knowledge raises up such a wonderful feeling, causing me to leap out of bed this morning at 5:30am. It also raises a feeling of gratitude that is unmatched, gratitude for the sacrifice of our risen Savior.

Join us in taking time this Easter to ponder the loved ones who have gone before us… and REJOICE! God promises us that those who love Him will be reunited. And He displayed His promise that first Easter for our benefit. God’s richest blessings to you and your families. He is Risen indeed!

Alpha & Omega

I had forgotten about this post. I hope you find it as helpful as we did as we were diving into God’s Word to find some answers.

Continuing with our previous comments about we are learning to trust God in all of this, and how we often think of Him telling us “I’ve got this”, Deb and I thought of all of this as one ongoing conversation with God. We imagine it going something like this:

Us: God, didn’t you see this agony coming, and if so, why did it have to happen?
God: Of course I saw it coming. I’ve been here since the beginning and will be here at the end. I Am the Alpha and the Omega. (Rev 1:8) I see things you don’t see, and you need to trust me.

Us:  So, you gave us Jacob, only to take him away?
God: Yes. I give and I take away. (Job 1:21). I have a purpose for Jacob, and for you. (Romans 8:28). I showed you my power by giving you another child…

The Christmas season tends to bring a sense of longing for those that have passed away. I submit to you that those feelings should be tempered as we reflect on the fact that we have so much to be thankful for, and to rejoice over, as a result of God’s gift to us at Christmas.
