I planned to pen a new entry to mark the anniversary of Jacob’s passing. But, I could not beat my original and so, I am reposting it instead. -R

“’O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?’ The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Cor 15:55-57

Today we celebrate Jacob’s homecoming into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior. Jacob was unable to recover from the stress of the surgery. His heart was already weak and just was not up to the task. The surgery took place about 3pm on Monday afternoon, and Jacob passed just after 1am Tuesday morning.
We know that Jesus has welcomed him, to join him at a seat on his lap, rejoicing that another lamb has returned to him. And while Deb, Addison and I (along with our entire family) mourn bitterly, we receive great comfort and overwhelming peace with this knowledge. How do I…

I am by no means as good at writing in this as Rob (BTW – thank you Rob for providing the status updates and your humor!). However, I (Deb) wanted to wish all of you mothers a blessed Mother’s Day! In my devotions this morning I was reminded that even Jesus took care of his own mother. I know he will continue hold and care for each of us mothers – even in our most trying of moments! If we keep our eyes fixed on Him we will make it through those valleys and hills of life! -D

This month, we celebrate both Easter and what would have been Jacob’s first birthday. What might be considered a bitter moment is made sweet by God’s promise to us.

Letting go of 2016

I hear so many people talk about the fact that they cannot wait until the year 2016 is over. They mention celebrity deaths and other tragedies as examples of why they believe that 2016 was a terrible year. This goes along with the annual shared hope that the following year will bring more joy, and perhaps more blessings, then the prior year.

But for me, moving on from 2016 means that in a way I must let go of Jacob’s story. The events of his life that transformed ours all transpired in the year 2016. Moving on into a new year means just that, moving on. I’m torn with that concept because on one hand I feel as though we’re ready to move on. Yet, on the other hand I oddly found comfort in clinging to the familar though painful memories.

And so, like many times before, I find solace in wise words from scripture. I am thankful to our minister for bringing the following to our attention:

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.

Proverbs 19:21

Deb and I had plans for 2016. Frankly, those plans were torn, discarded and replaced with Jacob’s journey. And so it is that we fully rely on God that His purpose is superior to ours and that whatever it is that He has in store for us will be good. Thank God for that. Happy New Year to you all.
